General Info
- Calmac ferries operate from Wemyss bay to Rothesay (PA18 6AR -35 mins) and also Colintraive to
Rhubodach (PA22 3AP – 5 mins). If you are travelling by car, we would strongly suggest taking the
Colintraive ferry – why not soak up some of the beautiful Argyll scenery and this runs approximately
every half hour! The Wemyss Bay ferry is expected to be extremely busy, so be aware you may not be able
to travel on the service you arrive for. - There is a Scotrail train service from Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay and McGill’s 901 &906 from Buchanan street to Largs stops at Wemyss Bay.
- Where possible, please print your tickets or download the to your phone. Wifi is limited and the best 4g signal is from EE.
- No glass or opened bottles will be allowed on site and strictly no alcohol is allowed to be brought in. If you arrive to site with opened bottles of liquid, they will be disposed of. There are plenty if water points throughout the arena and campsite. Empty bottles are encouraged, no more than 500ml to allow you to refill water during the weekend. Please do not bring metal bottles as these cannot be monitored.
- Our security team and marshals will be on the arena and campsite at all times. Police Scotland will also be in attendance.
A challenge 25 operation will be in place. Proof of age may be requested at any point during the festival. - Please be patient on arrival so we can ensure you have the correct tickets and be prepared for security
checks prior to entry.
- There will be welfare team in the festival arena, and one within the campsite which will operate 24hrs a day.
- Check the weather for the weekend and be prepared for all seasons in one day! Sun cream and wellies are a usual ButeFest staple.
- It is an offence to supply alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. If anyone is caught supplying alcohol to anyone under age, they will be removed from the festival and reported to Police Scotland.
- Our fab welfare teams are on hand to support you in any way possible – whether it’s a safe place, lost friend, an emergency phone charge to sanitary products, the teams are here to help.
- Our first aid tent is beside the welfare tent so it is very handy if you need assistance.
- The campsite will open on Thursday at 5pm.
- Cars are not allowed on the campsite – they will be directed to relevant car park.
- There are no BBQs allowed in the campsite – nothing that creates and ember4.
- We would advise you to bring cash with you. We only have three cash machines plus the Post Office. Please be prepared.
- Phone charging is available at Welfare at a cost of £2 and there is additional charging at Ettrick Bay tearoom in a secure lockable unit from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
- Please be respectful to the volunteers who make this festival possible.
- Please use the bins provided to help keep the site tidy.
- Lost property will be hand into site control office before being passed to the local police station after the festival.
The dealing in or use of controlled drugs is not condoned by ButeFest.
Drug enforcement laws are as applicable on site as anywhere else in the country. Police officers will be on site and will deal with drug offences in accordance with national guidelines. If you deal in drugs, it is likely that you will be arrested. Neither anti-social nor illegal behaviour will be tolerated and participants will leave themselves liable for eviction from the site. No refunds will be given
We are dog friendly Festival and we welcome well behaved dogs, provided they bring with them well behaved owners at the end of their leash who respect our facilities and above all else, other Festival goers. To help with this, please see the regulations below:
- Dogs are strictly NOT allowed in the music marquees or within the Family area (unless they are authorised assistance dogs). They must ALWAYS be kept in control and on short leads (under 1.5m) at ALL times during the Festival and within the campsite.
- It is YOUR responsibility to pick up after your dog and adhere to the Festival’s dog policy as well as abide by the law. If you fail to adhere to our policy, this may result in you and your dog being asked to leave the Festival. Under such circumstances, NO refunds will be given.
- Please be considerate to others – it’s hard to believe, but not everyone loves dogs like we do, so if your dog’s temperament can sometimes be a cause for concern, carefully consider whether bringing them to the Festival is the best decision. Remember, some children can also be very afraid of dogs, so try to prevent your dog from running up to people – even if the dog is just being friendly.
- Please also ask yourself whether bringing your dog to the Festival is right for them. There will be loud music, potentially large crowds and whilst some dogs may love the action and attention, others may prefer to be curled up at home. We will provide you with a wristband to attach to your dog’s collar – just in case you get separated – which will give you space to write your name and phone number on so you can be reunited.
- Be aware of the law – Dog’s (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 – remembering we are on agricultural land!
- Never leave a dog unattended in a car, even with the window open and water available. Take them out of the car and leave them in a secure, cool place with access to shade and water.

The organisation’s purposes are to advance the Arts and Culture by showcasing internationally renowned musicians, bands and family entertainers via an annual family friendly festival, providing the opportunity for local musicians, bands and entertainers to perform.
We are a membership organisation who elect a board of trustees each year to run the day to day business of the charity.
