Where is ButeFest?
ButeFest is held on the Isle of Bute, it has moved this year and will be right by the beautiful beach at Ettrick Bay on the west side of the Island,
just 90mins from Glasgow by public transport, or by driving and catching the ferry either from Wemyss Bay or Colintraive. Once you get to the island, there will be plenty of signs to direct you to the festival and a regular dedicated bus service for those travelling on foot
How do I get to ButeFest?
You can catch the ferry from Wemyss Bay (£6.10 adult return, £21.90 car return, 35 minutes) or from Colintraive (£2.20 adult return, £11.50 car return, 5 minutes). Our ferries leave very regularly and you do not need to book on them. But they may be busy with festival goers so do be prepared to wait if travelling by car or camper van. My tickets haven't arrived...
Your tickets will have been sent to you by email shortly after you paid for them, and you should print and bring these with you. You may find your tickets in your junk mail folder. Can I get tickets on the gate?
Tickets on the gate are more expensive, but will be available as long as there are tickets left. Last year we sold out of Saturday tickets, so it is better to buy tickets in advance to avoid being disappointed.
Where can I stay?
We have on-site camping, which is £5 per person payable on arrival, and limited campervan parking which should be bought in advance. Only 1 x campervan ticket is required per vehicle, not per person. If you are camping with us, it is open from approx. 5pm on Thursday 26th July – noon on Monday 30th July. There will be general camping and family camping (so the wee ones can get some shut-eye!) within easy walking distance to the main festival arena. There will also be ‘accessible’ camping for those that require it. These should be reserved when purchasing tickets with only 1 x campervan required per vehicle, not per person. SPECIAL OFFER: Upon presentation of a valid Young Scot or NUS Card, camping will be offered free of charge! When does the festival and campsite open and close?
The campsite opens on Thursday evening, around 5pm, and closes Monday at noon – just enough time to sleep off the night before! The main arena opens around noon on Friday and we jump straight in with live music. It’s then open until noon on Monday. There is plenty of food and drink in the main arena and a cafe right next door. A short bus ride will take you to Port Bannatyne or Rothesay or you can always order a takeaway.
What food and drink will there be?
We make sure there is a good range of food and drink options available throughout the festival with an emphasis on delicious local food and craft drinks. We cater for carnivores to herbivores and stock a great range of alcoholic drinks. Can I bring my own food and drink?
You are welcome to bring food and drink with you to the campsite. No BBQs or campfires sorry. We allow people to bring one drink at a time each into the main arena.
What could I do on Bute before or after ButeFest?
There’s loads to do on Bute, we have beautiful beaches, historic sites, tons of places to eat, drink and shop, and lots of other fun stuff to do. Any chance of a proper loo?
Our festival toilets will be cleaned regularly throughout the festival.
What is there to do for children?
We have load of activities for all ages, running all day, including toddler and teen tents, plus spaces for breastfeeding and nappy changing. You can find out more on our line-up page. Need a bottle heated up? Just ask at the Welfare Tent. And just in case, we have a comprehensive lost and found children policy, and work closely with police and security if there are any problems or concerns. We suggest popping a phone number on the wristband of someone on site who we can contact over the weekend.
I have a disability, is there access?
We want to welcome everyone to ButeFest, so give us a quick email with any specific needs or questions you have. The event is set in a field which of course can get muddy and tricky to make your way around depending on the weather. We do have plenty of seating and disabled access toilets on site.
Can I bring my dog?
Well behaved dogs are allowed at ButeFest – we love a furry cuddle! – but must be kept on a lead and you must clean up after them.
Can I have a campfire or BBQ?
We have a campfire for everyone to enjoy in the main arena which helps keep noise in the camping area to a minimum and reduces the risk of a fire spreading. You can bring a camp cooker but we can’t allow BBQs or anything which produces an ember. This is guidance from the fire service, so will be strictly enforced – sorry!
Can I bring my own drinks?
We aren’t allowed glass on site anywhere including in the campsite, but you are welcome to bring other drinks. We allow people to bring one drink each from the campsite into the main arena over the weekend. We have great drink and food options on site all weekend.
Lost children
Lost children usually aren’t lost – just having a great time without parents! ButeFest is a small friendly site and our stewards will keep an eye out for children leaving unaccompanied. However, we do suggest that you get a blank wristband from the ticket desk to put your phone number on so we can contact you and if we find them first, they will usually be found in the welfare tent having a drink and a biscuit. If you do misplace a child at any time, let a steward know.
